The 49ers navigated a second practice without left tackle Trent Williams leading up to the NFC championship game. - An ankle sprain suffered in the divisional playoffs continues to hamper Williams who missed Wednesday’s practice as well. Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Wednesday said Williams expects to play. - “In Trent’s mind, there’s no way he is not playing,” Shanahan told reporters in a press conference. “Now that’s why he was so crushed last game (against the Rams) because he believed he would and his body wouldn’t let him. So hopefully we’ll have some better luck this game. But I know he believes he’s playing and so do I, so we’ll see how that pans out as the week goes.” - Ultimately Williams won’t be able to force his way onto the field if doctors determine he’s not healthy enough to play. In Week 18 Williams was dealing with an elbow sprain that sidelined him for the game. Second-year offensive lineman Colton McKivitz would be first in line to start if Williams isn’t able to go by Sunday. - Here’s the full practice report:
