Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady announced his retirement Tuesday after a legendary 22-year career in the NFL, leaving the Bucs in need of a new starting quarterback for the 2022 season and beyond. - They also might lose their best tight end, Rob Gronkowski, who has his own decision to make about his football future. - Bucs general manager Jason Licht was asked Tuesday about whether or not Brady’s retirement could impact Gronkowski’s decision to return to Tampa Bay for another season, or follow his friend and quarterback into the sunset. - “I don’t suspect that,” Licht said. “I think that’s yet to be seen. I’m giving Rob the respect to give him some time to see how he feels here in the next coming of weeks after a long, grueling season. When you played in the league for 11 years, you need a little time to think things through to see if you want to go through with it for another year. From my conversations with Rob, he just needs that. I don’t think it’s going to be dependent on whether Tom came back or not from what I understand and I know that Rob had an incredible experience here as well. He was a big factor in us having the success that we had. We would welcome Rob back with open arms, but we’re giving him his space right now to decide on what he wants to do.” - Gronkowski has made a huge impact for the Bucs over the past two seasons, rekindling his connection with Brady as Tampa Bay enjoyed the best two-year run in franchise history. - O.J. Howard is set to be a free agent, so losing Gronkowski as well would leave the Bucs extremely thin at tight end heading into the offseason, as they try to reload around a new quarterback. - - Gallery - Best photos of Tom Brady's epic 2-year run with the Bucs - - - - - - view 111 images - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Bucs Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Bucs Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
