The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are losing another key starter on offense to retirement, as Pro Bowl right guard Ali Marpet announced Sunday that he’s walking away from the game after just seven seasons. - Marpet’s departure will leave yet another gaping hole in Tampa Bay’s starting lineup, and could also force the Bucs to replace the entire interior of their offensive line this offseason, as Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen and right guard Alex Cappa are both set to become free agents. - The only silver lining for the Bucs in this situation? They won’t have to pay for Marpet’s lofty cap hit over the final two years of his current contract, which was in the double-digits, though it’ll still result in some dead money. - Here’s the breakdown, courtesy of The Athletic’s Greg Auman: - - Marpet’s retirement gives the Bucs a major hole to fill at guard. They won’t have to pay his $10 million salary for 2022, but take on at least some of $7 million in dead cap from previous restructures to his contract. Could be processed as a post-June 1 move. - — Greg Auman (@gregauman) February 27, 2022 - - - Along with Jensen and Cappa, the Bucs have plenty of other big-name free agents to try and retain this offseason, including Chris Godwin, Carlton Davis III, Rob Gronkowski, Jordan Whitehead and Leonard Fournette. - - List - - Who should go into the Bucs' Ring of Honor next? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Bucs Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Bucs Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
