- - - Yes, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers currently have a gaping hole at the game’s most important position. - Following Tom Brady’s (maybe) retirement, the Bucs are currently looking at a likely scenario of bringing back veteran Blaine Gabbert to pair with last year’s second-round pick, Kyle Trask. Obviously, that’s not an ideal scenario for a team that hopes to keep competing for division titles and deep playoff runs over the next few years. - That said, quarterback desperation can lead to some really bad decisions, like the one the Washington Commanders just made to trade multiple Day 2 draft picks to the Indianapolis Colts for Carson Wentz. - Wentz was run out of Philadelphia after Nick Foles led the Eagles to a Super Bowl win, and Jalen Hurts usurped him as a second-round rookie. After just one season in Indy, the Colts are already giving up on Wentz, despite the fact that they traded a first-round pick for him. - Despite that track record, Washington just traded multiple third-round picks for Wentz, including next year’s pick that can become a second-rounder based on certain incentives. They’re also taking on his full contract, which will pay Wentz $28 million in 2022. - It’s one thing for Bucs fans to be disappointed that they weren’t the team to land Russell Wilson in a blockbuster trade instead of the Denver Broncos. - But for any Tampa Bay supporter who might view the Wentz trade as yet another veteran starter the Bucs won’t be able to add, be grateful they didn’t give the Colts what Washington just did. - If the Bucs want an inconsistent, mediocre quarterback for the 2022 season, they can just roll with Gabbert without having to sacrifice valuable draft picks and a ton of valuable cap space. - - List - - 2022 NFL mock draft: Post-combine 7-round projections for Bucs - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Bucs Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Bucs Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
