He may be listed at just 5-10, 198 pounds, but Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead plays football as if he has never been aware of this fact. - What he may lack in size, the former fourth-round draft pick out of Pitt more than makes up for with his hard-hitting style of play, his unwavering energy, and instincts that make him a big-play magnet. - Whitehead is coming off an impressive performance in the Bucs’ 31-15 wild-card playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles, in which he was flying all over the field making plays at every level. - “Well, he’s a hitter,” head coach Bruce Arians says of Whitehead. “He is a hitter and he’s a guy that’s always prepared. He’s really, really improved his pass defense in the last year and a half. He’s a force because he’s one of those guys that he’s going to bring it. He’s going to cause turnovers, and you love having him on your squad.” - His teammates know that Whitehead is a big reason for any success the Bucs have on defense, and that he’s taken his game to another level this year. - “An incredible year – he’s our leader back there,” fellow safety Antoine Winfield Jr. says of his teammate. “He’s always bringing energy, always doing his job and he just makes plays.” - Tampa Bay will have their hands full Sunday with a talented Los Angeles Rams offense in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, so they’ll need Whitehead and the rest of the defense to deliver another stellar performance this week. - If they rise to the occasion and come away with a big win, don’t be surprised if Whitehead is a big reason why they end up back in the NFC title game. - - List - - Bucs injury report: 2 out, 5 questionable for Sunday vs. Rams - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Bucs Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Bucs Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
