While the big headlines for Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans will be all about Tom Brady’s potential retirement decision, there’s another first-ballot Hall of Famer with a similar decision to make this offseason. - Tight end Rob Gronkowski just finished his second year with the Bucs after they lured him out of a one-year retirement, and despite dealing with multiple injuries this season, had a stellar 2021 campaign. - In 12 games, Gronkowski caught 55 passes for 802 yards and six touchdowns, averaging nearly 15 yards per catch. - Just a day after a crushing playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Gronkowski reflected on the past year, and the decision that lies ahead: - - Year 11 in the books What a ride it’s been. Grateful to the Bucs for giving me an opportunity to play another year. To my teammates, thank you for giving everything you had. The sweat we shed & memories made will never be forgotten. Thanks to the #Krewe too - Year 12??? - — Rob Gronkowski (@RobGronkowski) January 25, 2022 - - - Gronk expanded on that thought when he met with the media Monday, reflecting on his experience in Tampa Bay over the past two seasons. - “It’s been an unbelievable ride,” Gronkowski said. “There’s no doubt about it. My decision for coming back was definitely solidified being here. I was very happy to come back and play football. Just being a part of this organization from [the front office], to all of my teammates here, I have much love for everyone in this organization. - “Last year, we won the Super Bowl – which is unbelievable,” he continued. “It’s unfortunate with how everything went yesterday, but it was still a very successful season, no doubt about that. To win the Super Bowl last season and get back in the playoffs this year, it’s hard. It’s a game of football. It’s hard to win. It’s hard to win one Super Bowl, so it’s hard to even go to the playoffs. Just to be part of this team, I’m proud of my teammates, proud of my coaches and just proud to be a part of the last two years.” - Gronkowski will turn 33 this offseason, and he’s already got a bronze bust and a gold jacket waiting for him in Canton. Brady’s decision might impact his own, and at this point, it wouldn’t be surprising to see both go either way. - - List - - Tom Brady talks about potential retirement decision - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Bucs Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Bucs Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
