The 2021 NFL season is officially over for all but two teams. That means 30 teams are now looking toward the offseason. For the Washington Football Team, a new potential quarterback target emerged after the NFC championship game. - When the Los Angeles Rams defeated the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, it was likely Jimmy Garoppolo’s last game for the 49ers. San Francisco traded up in the 2021 NFL draft to select Trey Lance last April, and all indications are the team will move forward with him under center in 2022. - What about Garoppolo? - On Tuesday, Garoppolo spoke with the media and sounded like a guy who expects to be traded soon. - “I was talking to John yesterday about finding the right destination and whatever the future holds, just doing it the right way,” Garoppolo said per Nick Wagoner of ESPN. - “I’ve got a long career ahead of me. I’m excited about it. I’m excited about the opportunities to come. I just want to go to a place where they want to win.” - Garoppolo helped lead the 49ers to within three points of its second Super Bowl appearance in three years. No, he didn’t particularly play well in the playoffs, but he will have plenty of suitors. Have you seen some of the quarterbacks currently playing in the NFL? - Garoppolo is what some would call a “winner.” He is beloved by his teammates. - - Kraxy how y’all have so much to say about our quarterback…. Tampa Bay, Carolina, Pittsburgh, New Orleans and Denver will join Washington in looking for a quarterback. There will be others, too, but these are the teams clearly in desperate need. - Garoppolo shouldn’t require the same compensation as Matthew Stafford one year ago. However, it’s all about supply and demand. Garoppolo will be an upgrade for most teams, which means he will be in demand. So, any team acquiring him will likely have to part with at least a second-round pick and perhaps another mid-round pick. And after trading for him, the team will need to sign him to an extension. - Don’t be surprised if something happens soon on the Garoppolo front, whether it’s Washington or another team. -   - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Washington Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Washington Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
