Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores sent shockwaves across the NFL Tuesday when he sued the league and three teams, alleging discriminatory hiring practices. - After finishing the 2021 campaign with a 9-8 record, Flores was fired in January. Miami had started the season 1-7, and Flores led the Dolphins to seven consecutive wins at one point. - Flores has interviewed for multiple jobs during this hiring cycle. - On Wednesday, Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera offered his support to Flores. - “This is a very accomplished coach,” said Rivera via John Keim of ESPN. “I can see the frustration, and I can feel the frustration. It’s almost as if this is your last resort. How does a guy like that get left out of the hiring cycle?” - Rivera, who was on a call discussing Washington’s name change, continued in his support for Flores. - “If you put his résumé — and took the name off and changed the team he coached for and grew up with — and put it on the table and looked at all the résumés, Brian Flores is the type of résumé you point at. Let’s judge on merit.” - Rivera, who is a minority, said he wasn’t hired until his eighth head-coaching interview in 2011 with the Carolina Panthers. -   -   - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Washington Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Washington Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
