Washington Commanders’ leadership apparently is now going to finally get their new crest correct on their third attempt. - Perhaps “the third time will be the charm.” So goes the old saying when one has failed at something twice and is about to make a third attempt at the given task. - Feb. 2, Washington unveiled its new name (Commanders), uniform, logo and crest. While the name, uniform and logo all received both positive and negative reviews, the crest was nearly unanimously criticized by fans, writers and radio hosts old enough to know the significance of the issue. - The crest originally declared the Super Bowl calendar years in which Washington won the championships. However, as we said immediately on February 2, it only served to cause confusion.  - Kevin Sheehan attempted to persuade Washington team president Jason Wright, however, Wright weaved and dazzled his way attempting to project that he was aware of something that Sheehan was not. - Sheehan would have none of it, and correctly reminded Wright that Washington head coach Ron Rivera was part of the 1985 Bears not the 1986 Bears and that Washington had been crowned the NFL champions of the 1982, 1987 and 1991 NFL seasons. - A couple of weeks later, the Commanders presented their second crest proclaiming Washington had won Super Bowls XVII, XXII, and XXVI. The NFL responded in the negative, stating they own the copyright to roman numerals when used in conjunction with the NFL Super Bowls. - - Love this idea for the #WashingtonCommanders crest. Fans are looking for things to poke fun at and nit pick. This would hopefully appease some of them and it makes sense. #TakeCommand
