The Washington Commanders enter 2022 NFL free agency next month with plenty of room to make a splash. According to Over the Cap, Washington currently has just under $32 million in cap space for 2022. Now, if the Commanders make a move for a veteran quarterback such as Russell Wilson or even Jimmy Garoppolo, that number will lessen significantly. - Depending on what the Commanders do at quarterback, don’t be surprised if head coach Ron Rivera looks to add at least two starters via free agency. Washington is most desperate for help at inside linebacker, and the 2022 veteran free-agent market isn’t exactly brimming with high-level options. Green Bay linebacker De’Vondre Campbell could be a target and would make sense after a breakout 2021 campaign. - Other teams will also release good players due to salary-cap issues, meaning the Commanders could add talented potential starters who are currently not free agents. - Washington’s salary cap is in excellent shape, and there aren’t a lot of contracts with higher cap numbers the team can adjust. However, there are three moves the Commanders could make to free up more space if needed in 2022.
