So, you want Washington to re-sign Terry McLaurin, Brandon Scherff, Daron Payne, trade for Derek Carr, and re-sign Carr to an extension? Well, hold on. Have you stopped to consider what all this might cost against the Commanders’ salary cap? - Joel Corry CBS Sports analyst, former agent, and host of “Inside the Cap” joined the John Keim Report, Wednesday to discuss such dynamics. - Terry McLaurin is looking at getting a deal with some $40 million in guarantees and $18 million per year arrangements. Corry feels McLaurin should not be in a hurry, observing what type of deals Deebo Samuel, AJ Brown and DK Metcalf are able to obtain. Corry believes McLaurin will not match their money but their gains will increase his income. - Brandon Scherff having made $32 million over the past two years, will seek to become the highest-paid guard in the NFL, but has not played a full season since 2016 and in the last four seasons has missed 22 games. - Corry felt the Charles Leno deal was a win/win for both Leno and the Commanders. - While at the annual NFL combine, meetings take place between agents and teams to begin learning how interested teams are in resigning their own free agents, what the market might be like for some players, and whether taking a pay-cut might be more attractive to a player, than losing money on the free market, following being released. - Consequently, Landon Collins will certainly not make the $16 million he is scheduled to receive. It might only be half of that, according to Corry. Corry advised that sometimes players are idealistic, refusing to take a pay-cut, erroneously assuming they can make a good deal more on the open market. - Corry doubts Washington will pay both Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne (inside tackles) as well as edge rushers Montez Sweat and Chase Young. “This year will be pivotal for those guys,” in determining who gets extended. - So, you want to trade for and then extend a veteran quarterback? - Corry believes Derek Carr could obtain as much as $35-40 million (per year) in his next deal. Deshaun Watson is under contract to make an average of $34 million the next four seasons. 2023 is the contract year for Russell Wilson and Corry believes he could get to $50 million a year.  Jimmy Garoppolo earns $27 million now, so in his next contract, he could be earning $32-35 million. - SMH. - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Washington Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Washington Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
