Logan Paulsen appeared with Pete Medhurst Monday on The Team 980 AM to discuss Mitchell Trubisky as a quarterback for the Washington Commanders, and he did not hold back anything. - To prepare for the show, Paulsen watched three games of film of Trubisky with the Bears. Paulsen feels Trubisky has a live enough arm, and, at times, made good decisive throws with good mechanics. - Then came the “but.” Paulsen said on the film he saw Trubisky hold the ball, double-clutch, even “reading the wrong side of the field the way Robert Griffin used to do.” - Paulsen said Trubisky was not super accurate on deep balls, over-throwing posts, not being accurate enough if coaches want to bring him in to change the franchise. Paulsen was fair to say, he did not really know what Trubisky was being coached to do, but there were plays he wondered if Trubisky saw defenders on his drop-backs. “When I watch the tape some of these things make it clear to me why he is no longer starting in the NFL,” said the former Washington tight end. - A Bears offensive staff member a couple of years ago expressed to Paulsen, they were really worried they had missed in drafting Trubisky. Ryan Fitzpatrick is someone Paulsen pointed to that was able to change, grow over the years. But he feels most quarterbacks never get it refined; as these bad habits are part of their game. - Paulsen expressed, “I hope one day Mitchell Trubisky can come on this show and say that Logan Paulsen really missed his evaluation of me.” - He contrasted Trubisky with Derek Carr, saying, Carr plays within the timing of the play, throwing to space, spots. He understands the defense, his ball is on time, in the right position, so it ends up being a 25-yard gain. - Calmly, yet boldly, Paulsen stated that when it comes to executing the offense Mitch Trubisky, Marcus Mariota and Jay Cutler are talented guys but they get staffs fired because they can’t execute at the level needed. - He stated he was not sure Trubisky actually gives you anything. He then asked seriously, “Do you want to bring a guy in here that coaches are going to have to shield? I don’t think so… I’m a conservative guy, not a big gambler, but Trubisky is not someone I would be willing to gamble on.” - He is hopeful that Trubisky sitting last year, studying all year, prepping Josh Allen, matured him as Rex Grossman admitted years ago that process really helped him mature as an NFL quarterback. - Paulsen is a really good listen; bright, articulate, and should have your attention when talking football. - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Washington Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Washington Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
