Controversy again is swirling around the Washington Commanders. - On Friday, Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane basically accused Washington Commanders’ management of inappropriately stealing running back J.D. McKissic out from under them Wednesday. - An announcement had been made Tuesday that McKissic was leaving Washington to sign with the Bills. However, on Wednesday McKissic had a change of mind, to remain with the Commanders agreeing on a two-year deal. - - Brandon Beane did not hold back in going in on his former colleagues who run the #Commanders. He and Sean McDermott were with the Panthers with Ron and Marty. Shots fired. pic.twitter.com/AfIMLS2rHz - — Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) March 18, 2022 - - - “I’ve had it before where the agent has agreed with you on something and someone else calls and says, ‘Hey, what if I add a million dollars. Or what if I guarantee this.’ Once you have an agreement, the agent is supposed to say it’s over,” Beane said. “And [McKissic’s] agent did that and this agent told the other club it’s over. But the other club didn’t back off if you read [what I’m saying].” - From Beane’s perspective, we are to believe the Commanders broke some sort of unwritten rule(s) when it comes to NFL free agency signings and negotiations. Notice how Beane described what the Commanders did as “painful.” - Did you also notice Beane chose to praise the agent for McKissic saying he “did a great job?” Therefore being certain to not point any blame toward the agent, which frankly, wasn’t that convenient, seeing he might (or will) have future negotiations with this particular agent? McKissic’s agents by the way are Doug Hendricksen and C.J. LaBoy. - However, just as noticeable is the fact that Beane was certainly not hesitant to suggest Washington’s management team of Ron Rivera, Martin Mayhew and Marty Hurney were involved in inappropriate behavior. - Certainly, Washington Wire does not want to dishonestly or unprofessionally simply be “a homer”, knee-jerking and siding with the Commanders. Yet, the vagueness of Beane in citing nothing particular, and the fact that it was McKissic himself who determined to stay and re-sign with Washington rather than sign with the Bills, is completely being ignored and disregarded by Beane as part of what actually transpired. - So basically Beane has now publicly broadcast to the rest of the NFL franchises that Washington did something illegal or shady. Beane hid behind “if you read what I am saying.” Well, might Beane perhaps need to be willing to be transparent stating what it was? - Until we learn if there was actually anything illegal or shady done by the Commanders management trio, perhaps this should be viewed as sour grapes, rumor, or gossip amounting to negative recruiting against Washington by Beane himself. - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Washington Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Washington Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
