Defensive tackle Tim Settle signed with the Buffalo Bills last week, ending his four-year run with the Washington Commanders. Settle was a player Washington would have liked to have kept, but with Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne and Matt Ioannidis in front of him, keeping the promising young interior defender was cost-prohibitive. - Then, two days after Settle agreed to term with the Bills, Washington inexplicably released Ioannidis to create salary-cap room. Cutting Ioannidis wasn’t really an issue, but the timing seemed a bit curious. - We will continue to wonder if the Commanders truly planned to cut Ioannidis before Wednesday, or if they realized it was a distinct possibility. So why not make a greater effort to retain Settle? - It’s too late now, as Settle signed his two-year deal with the Bills Wednesday and Buffalo introduced Settle on Friday. - In his introductory press conference, Settle let everyone know how he was excited to be with the Buffalo Bills. - Check it out: - - .@Tim_Settle is a MOOOD!! #GoBills | #BillsMafia pic.twitter.com/1O6K47Qdge - — Buffalo Bills (@BuffaloBills) March 17, 2022 - - - Settle never played more than 33% of the defensive snaps in a season during his time in Washington. That should change with the Bills and the hope from Settle’s side is it could lead to a lucrative long-term deal down the line. - Some would argue Settle’s pure joy could be just because he is out of Washington, but from all indications Settle enjoyed his time with the Commanders. After all, he is from Manassas and played his college football at Virginia Tech. - Not re-signing Settle could come back to haunt Washington if the Commanders can’t re-sign Daron Payne. -   - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Washington Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Washington Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
