The Washington Commanders found their quarterback in the trade for Carson Wentz — at least for 2022. But that doesn’t mean the Commanders are done at quarterback this offseason. - Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently said he thinks Washington is still in play for a quarterback with its first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. - Now, a new report from JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington and 106.7 The Fan says the Commanders will be present at the pro days of top quarterback prospects Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis this week. - Finlay also said Washington plans to attend pro days for Matt Corral and Desmond Ridder, too, barring schedule issues. - - Even after the Carson Wentz trade sources tell me the Commanders will have representation at the Pro Days this week for QBs Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett. Plan is to get to Matt Corral and Desmond Ridder too but some schedule issues remain - — JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) March 21, 2022 - - - There are two schools of thought here. First, Washington traded for Wentz, so it needs to do everything possible to surround him with enough talent to succeed. There were also Wentz’s issues when the Eagles drafted Jalen Hurts. - So the Commanders would draft other positions to help their new quarterback, right? - The next thought is, why wouldn’t Washington attend these pro days? One, there’s no guarantee Wentz will succeed. His recent track record proves as much. Second, wouldn’t you at least want other teams to believe you’re still in the quarterback market? - We don’t know how Washington feels internally about going into the 2022 season with only Wentz and Taylor Heinicke under center. Washington’s inactivity in free agency would certainly lead you to believe quarterback was off the table at No. 11. - Still, perhaps the Commanders could look at a quarterback in the second round? I would expect them to come away from the draft with a developmental quarterback at some point. - The Commanders should definitely be present at the pro days of each of the top quarterback prospects, and that list also includes Sam Howell and Carson Strong. - Regardless of how anyone feels about the Wentz trade, a first-round quarterback should absolutely still be considered if the team loves the player and the value is right. Again, there are no guarantees with Wentz. -   -   - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Washington Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Washington Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
