Tuesday brought yet another puzzling development regarding the ownership of the Washington Commanders by Daniel Snyder. - NFL commissioner Roger Goodell at the owner’s meetings, stated Tuesday that Daniel Snyder remains uninvolved in day-to-day operations of the Commanders. Further, Goodell expressed he would determine when and if Snyder returns. - Yet, Washington fans will all recall at the unveiling of the Commanders new name February 2, Snyder was indeed present and front and center. Others will remember that head coach Ron Rivera said on more than one occasion he had spoken with Snyder during the season, keeping the owner informed. - The arrangement remains uncertain though Tanya Snyder has been more visible than husband, Dan. Does that mean she is actually directing the day-to-day operations? Might she be present visibly yet in constant communication with Dan who could be still calling the shots at Ashburn? Or might Tanya actually be supervising and Dan is truly only learning from Tanya how she is leading? It is bizarre and another example of the atypical, unusual ownership that has marked the Snyder era. - What we do know is Roger Goodell and NFL owners did not request Attorney Beth Wilkinson to file a report in writing concluding her report last July. This tremendously set back the investigation, and another investigation has been ordered by Goodell, since new accusations against Snyder arose in February. - What would have transpired had Beth Wilkinson presented a written report? There are those who feel it would have been recommended to the NFL owners that Snyder be removed from ownership of the Washington franchise. - Has Goodell actually suspended Snyder or not? In July, why did Snyder’s lawyer state Snyder could return whenever he desired? Does Goodell actually have control over this awkward situation? - Some sponsors have begun to desert Snyder, so might fellow NFL owners and Goodell determine they need to “follow the money” before this results in even more sponsors rejecting the Commanders’ owner? - Nearly all Washington fans expressing their opinions seem to be tired of his ownership and are hopeful for Snyder’s removal. NFL owners could vote for Snyder’s removal and nearly all Washington fans think that would help the team on the field. Therefore, I can instantly think of three NFL owners that would probably vote for Snyder to maintain his ownership — the three NFC East divisional rival owners, of course. They appear to benefit the most if Snyder remains Washington’s owner. -   - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Washington Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Washington Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
