If the Washington Football Team doesn’t land a veteran quarterback by the opening of the new league year in March, they will most definitely secure one with a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. - Early mock drafts have Ole Miss’ Matt Corral and Pitt’s Kenny Pickett landing in Washington. Both would be solid choices, as they could play early, but each offers a different style. We know Ron Rivera and Scott Turner like mobility in a quarterback, which fits Corral better than Pickett, although Pickett is underrated as an athlete. - Pro Football Focus recently released their latest mock draft this week, and the pick is not a surprise. PFF has Washington landing Corral at No. 11. - Washington needs to get aggressive when it comes to upgrading the quarterback position. The Taylor Heinicke experiment has run its course following a 2021 campaign that resulted in a bottom-five finish in PFF grade. - Ole Miss’ Matt Corral will be in the conversation for top quarterback in the 2022 class after wrapping up his Rebels career with back-to-back 85.0-plus PFF grades (2020 and 2021). He is currently ranked as the No. 21 overall player and No. 2 quarterback behind Kenny Pickett on PFF’s draft board. - Corral was the second quarterback taken in this mock draft. Surprisingly, North Carolina QB Sam Howell was first, going No. 9 overall to the Broncos. - Desmond Ridder of Cincinnati went to New Orleans at No. 18 and Pickett landed with the Steelers at No. 20. - Ridder and Howell aren’t nearly receiving enough love early in the pre-draft process. Expect that to change over the next several months. -   - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Washington Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Washington Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
