Pro Football Focus Senior Data Analyst Nick Akridge broke down his analysis of the Washington Football Team’s 2021 season, during his guest appearance on the “Al Galdi Podcast,” Friday. - Space here limits my coverage so here is the link for you. See 31:00. - QB Taylor Heinicke graded at 59.4 which is just below average. Akridge said Heinicke can step in and win a couple of games, being one of the more exciting quarterbacks when he is seeing the field well, playing well, but the WFT can not rely on him and build around him as the franchise QB. - As for rookie quarterbacks, Akridge likes the passing arm of Nevada’s Carson Strong but did warn he is not very mobile. Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder is a dual-threat with plenty of experience. Liberty’s Malik Willis is so raw that whoever drafts him will need to be very patient. Pitt’s Kenny Pickett wears two gloves because of a smaller hand size. Akridge was firm that he believes all five of the 2021 quarterbacks drafted in round one, would be rated No. 1 if in this 2022 class. - Akridge expressed high praise for the WFT offensive line coach John Matsko, saying he did an “incredible” job as the entire line graded out well, including all four centers grading over 60. He stated Wes Schweitzer stepping in sometimes playing better than Brandon Scherff. He believes Matsko can replace Scherff. - Washington can have a top 15 offense with consistent QB play, as Akridge was firm that OC Scott Turner has schemed players open. - The main problem with the defense was as the secondary and missed tackles according to Akridge. He definitely felt CB William Jackson III from Week 12 onward had his four best games. Kendall Fuller struggled more in the slot than expected but did play well when moved back outside, having some of his best games. - Landon Collins was ten times better when on or near the line of scrimmage, able to shed blockers but still struggling in man coverage. Akridge doesn’t know if Jamin Davis will ever be a first-round linebacker, saying he gets lost, having to process so much in a short period of time. Akridge believes Daivs will be better suited to the outside where can use his athleticism, as he closes down in space well. -   -   - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Washington Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Washington Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
