Alfred McGuire was a professional basketball player who had a successful career in the 1950s. He was a standout player at St. John's University, where he was a two-time All-American and a three-time All-Metropolitan selection. He was also a member of the 1952 Olympic team.

McGuire was drafted by the Philadelphia Warriors in the 1953 NBA draft and played for them for two seasons. He was a reliable scorer and rebounder, averaging 11.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He was also a great passer, averaging 4.2 assists per game. He was a key contributor to the Warriors' 1954-55 championship season, averaging 11.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

McGuire was traded to the New York Knicks in 1955 and played for them for two seasons. He was a key contributor to the Knicks' 1956-57 championship season, averaging 10.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He retired from the NBA in 1957.

McGuire was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992. He was also inducted into the St. John's University Hall of Fame in 1995. He was a great player who was able to contribute to both the Philadelphia Warriors and the New York Knicks during his career.
