Andy Murray is a former professional ice hockey player and coach. He was born on July 31, 1951, in Souris, Manitoba, Canada. Murray began his hockey career as a player in the Western Hockey League (WHL) in the 1970s. He played for the Brandon Wheat Kings and the Medicine Hat Tigers. Murray was a solid defenseman who could also contribute offensively. He played in the WHL for four seasons before moving on to play in the minor leagues.

Murray played in the minor leagues for several years, including stints in the Central Hockey League (CHL) and the American Hockey League (AHL). He played for teams such as the Salt Lake Golden Eagles, the Maine Mariners, and the Nova Scotia Voyageurs. Murray was a reliable player who could be counted on to play a solid defensive game.

Murray's playing career ended in the early 1980s, and he transitioned into coaching. He began his coaching career in the minor leagues, coaching teams such as the Muskegon Lumberjacks and the Adirondack Red Wings. Murray's success as a coach in the minor leagues led to him being hired as an assistant coach in the NHL.

Murray's first NHL coaching job was as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1990. He then moved on to become an assistant coach with the Minnesota North Stars and the Winnipeg Jets. In 1996, Murray was hired as the head coach of the Los Angeles Kings.

Murray had a successful tenure as the Kings' head coach, leading the team to the playoffs in four of his six seasons. He was known for his defensive-minded coaching style and his ability to get the most out of his players. Murray was also known for his attention to detail and his ability to make in-game adjustments.

After leaving the Kings, Murray went on to coach the St. Louis Blues and the Calgary Flames. He also coached the Canadian men's national team at the 2003 IIHF World Championships, leading the team to a silver medal.
