Art Duncan was a Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach, known for his versatility and skill in both defense and forward positions. Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Duncan began his professional hockey career with the Portland Rosebuds of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA) in 1916. He played for the Rosebuds for two seasons before moving to the Vancouver Millionaires in 1918, where he played for four seasons.

Duncan's performance with the Millionaires was impressive, and he was recognized as one of the top defensemen in the league. In the 1922-23 season, he served as the team's player-coach, leading the Millionaires to the PCHA championship. His leadership and playing skills were instrumental in the team's success.

In 1926, Duncan joined the newly formed Detroit Cougars of the National Hockey League (NHL) as a player-coach. He played for the Cougars for two seasons, and despite the team's struggles, Duncan's individual performance was commendable. He was known for his strong defensive play and his ability to contribute offensively.

Duncan's playing career ended in 1930, but he continued to contribute to the sport as a coach. He served as the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1930 to 1931, leading the team to a strong season. However, he was replaced the following season due to the team's poor performance.

After his stint with the Maple Leafs, Duncan returned to the Detroit Red Wings (formerly the Cougars) as a coach for the 1932-33 season. Despite the team's struggles, Duncan's coaching was praised for its focus on teamwork and discipline.

Throughout his career, Duncan was known for his physical style of play and his ability to contribute at both ends of the ice. He was a strong skater, a skilled puck handler, and a reliable defenseman. His leadership and coaching abilities were also highly regarded, and he left a lasting impact on the teams he played for and coached.

In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Duncan was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1958. His career stands as a testament to his skill, versatility, and dedication to the sport of ice hockey.
