Greenberg began his career as an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh and later at the University of Virginia. He then transitioned to the NBA, where he served as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers. His keen eye for talent was recognized, and he was promoted to Director of Player Personnel for the Clippers.
In 1992, Greenberg was appointed as the Vice President and General Manager of the Philadelphia 76ers. During his tenure, he made a significant impact by drafting Allen Iverson as the first overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft. Iverson would go on to become an 11-time NBA All-Star and one of the most influential players in the league.
Greenberg's career also extended to the NCAA, where he served as the head coach of Radford University's men's basketball team from 2007 to 2011. Under his leadership, Radford won the Big South Conference in 2009 and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament. This marked the first time in nearly a decade that the team had achieved such success.
Despite his accomplishments, Greenberg's career was not without controversy. In 2011, he was sanctioned by the NCAA for violations related to impermissible benefits and recruiting inducements. As a result, he resigned from his position at Radford University.
Following his departure from Radford, Greenberg took his coaching talents overseas. He served as the head coach of Maccabi Haifa, a professional basketball team in Israel, leading them to the Israeli Basketball Super League Championship in 2013.
