Perriman was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft.

Perriman was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft. He played for the Saints for two seasons before being traded to the Detroit Lions in 1991. It was with the Lions that Perriman had his most successful years, playing for them from 1991 to 1996.
During his time with the Lions, Perriman was a key player in their offense, known for his speed and ability to make big plays. He had his best season in 1995, when he caught 108 passes for 1,488 yards and nine touchdowns. He was named to the Pro Bowl that year and was also named a first-team All-Pro.
After leaving the Lions, Perriman played one season for the Kansas City Chiefs in 1997 before retiring from the NFL. Over the course of his career, he caught 525 passes for 7,822 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Perriman's son, Breshad Perriman, also became a wide receiver and was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
