David West is a retired professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 15 seasons. He was born on August 29, 1980, in Teaneck, New Jersey, and attended Xavier University, where he played college basketball for four years.

West was selected by the New Orleans Hornets with the 18th overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft. He spent his first eight seasons with the Hornets, where he established himself as one of the league's most consistent power forwards. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2004 and was selected to two NBA All-Star Games in 2008 and 2009.

In 2011, West signed with the Indiana Pacers as a free agent. He played four seasons with the Pacers, where he helped the team reach the Eastern Conference Finals in 2013 and 2014. He was also named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2012.
