George Johnson was an American professional basketball player who had a successful career in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was known for his defensive prowess and was a key contributor to the success of the Golden State Warriors in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Johnson was born in New York City and attended the University of San Francisco, where he was a two-time All-American. He was drafted by the Warriors in 1973 and quickly established himself as a defensive stalwart. He was named to the All-Defensive Second Team in 1975 and 1976, and was a key member of the Warriors' 1975 NBA Championship team.

Johnson was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in 1978 and continued to be a defensive force. He was named to the All-Defensive Second Team again in 1979 and 1980. He was also a key contributor to the Spurs' 1981 NBA Championship team.

Johnson was traded to the New Jersey Nets in 1982 and continued to be a defensive presence. He was named to the All-Defensive Second Team for the third time in 1983. He retired from the NBA in 1986 after 13 seasons.

Throughout his career, Johnson was known for his defensive prowess and was a key contributor to the success of the Warriors and Spurs.
