George Kell was a former American professional baseball player who played in the Major League Baseball (MLB) for 15 seasons from 1943 to 1957. Kell was born on August 23, 1922, in Swifton, Arkansas. He began his professional baseball career in the Detroit Tigers organization and made his MLB debut in 1943.

Kell was known for his excellent hitting and fielding skills. He won the American League batting title in 1949 with a batting average of .343 and was a 10-time All-Star. Kell was also an exceptional fielder, winning the Gold Glove Award at third base in 1950, the first year the award was given.

Kell played for several teams throughout his career, including the Tigers, Philadelphia Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, and Chicago White Sox. He retired in 1957 with a career batting average of .306 and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.

After his playing career, Kell became a broadcaster for the Tigers and later for the Baltimore Orioles. He was known for his insightful commentary and his love for the game of baseball.
