Howie Morenz was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is widely considered one of the greatest players of all time. He played for the Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks, and New York Rangers during his 14-year career in the National Hockey League.

Morenz was known for his speed and agility on the ice, and his ability to make plays and score goals. He was a three-time Hart Trophy winner as the NHL's most valuable player, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945.

Morenz was a prolific scorer, leading the NHL in goals three times and points four times. He was also a three-time Stanley Cup champion, winning the Cup with the Canadiens in 1924, 1930, and 1931. He was the first player in NHL history to score 200 career goals, and he finished his career with 231 goals and 397 points.

Morenz was also known for his physical style of play, and he was one of the first players to use body-checking as a defensive tactic. He was also an excellent passer, and he was known for his ability to set up his teammates for scoring chances.

Morenz's career was tragically cut short in 1937 when he suffered a severe leg injury during a game. He died three years later from complications related to the injury. He was posthumously inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945, and his number 7 jersey was retired by the Canadiens in 1937.
