Ian Moran is a former professional ice hockey player who played as a defenseman in the National Hockey League (NHL) for over a decade. Moran was born on August 3, 1972, in Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up in Acton, Massachusetts. He began his hockey career playing for the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School team, where he was a standout player.

After high school, Moran attended Boston College, where he played for the Eagles' hockey team. He was a key player for the team, helping them win the Hockey East championship in 1994 and 1995. Moran was also named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in 1993 and the Hockey East Second All-Star Team in 1995.

In 1993, Moran was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round, 19th overall. He made his NHL debut with the Penguins in the 1995-96 season and played with the team for four seasons. During his time with the Penguins, Moran was known for his solid defensive play and his ability to move the puck up the ice. He was also a key player on the team's penalty kill unit.

In 1999, Moran was traded to the Boston Bruins, where he played for two seasons. He then signed as a free agent with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in 2001 and played with the team for one season. Moran then signed with the Dallas Stars in 2002 and played with the team for two seasons.

In 2004, Moran signed with the Boston Bruins for the second time in his career. He played with the team for one season before being traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in 2005. Moran played with the Coyotes for one season before signing with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the third time in his career in 2006. He played with the Penguins for one season before retiring from professional hockey in 2007.

Throughout his NHL career, Moran was known for his solid defensive play and his ability to move the puck up the ice. He was also a key player on the penalty kill unit for several of the teams he played for. Moran played in a total of 615 NHL games, scoring 23 goals and 88 assists for a total of 111 points.

After retiring from professional hockey, Moran became a coach and worked with several youth hockey programs in the Boston area. He also worked as a color commentator for NESN, covering Boston Bruins games. Moran currently works as a scout for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
