Jamaal Tinsley is a retired American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 11 seasons. He was born on February 28, 1978, in Brooklyn, New York, and attended high school in New York City before playing college basketball at Iowa State University.

Tinsley was selected by the Vancouver Grizzlies with the 27th overall pick in the 2001 NBA draft but was immediately traded to the Indiana Pacers. He spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Pacers, where he established himself as a solid point guard and a key contributor to the team's success. Tinsley was known for his excellent ball-handling skills, court vision, and ability to distribute the ball to his teammates.

During his time with the Pacers, Tinsley helped the team reach the playoffs six times, including a trip to the NBA Finals in 2000. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2002 and the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2006.

However, Tinsley's career was also marred by off-court issues, including legal troubles and conflicts with Pacers management. In 2007, he was involved in a highly publicized incident at a nightclub in Indianapolis, where he and several other Pacers players were involved in a brawl with fans. Tinsley was suspended for several games and eventually traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2008.

Tinsley played one season with the Grizzlies before being waived in 2009. He then signed with the Utah Jazz, where he played for two seasons before being waived again in 2011. Tinsley then played briefly for the Los Angeles Clippers before returning to the Jazz for the 2012-13 season.

Tinsley's final NBA season was with the Utah Jazz in 2013-14, where he played in 8 games before being waived in January 2014. He finished his NBA career with averages of 8.6 points, 6.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

Despite his off-court issues, Tinsley was a talented and respected player during his time in the NBA. He was known for his unselfish play and ability to make his teammates better, and he was a key contributor to several successful Pacers teams. While his career may have been overshadowed by his off-court troubles, Tinsley's talent and contributions to the game should not be overlooked.
