Jeff Samardzija is a former professional baseball player who played as a pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) for over a decade. He was born on January 23, 1985, in Merrillville, Indiana, and attended Valparaiso High School, where he played both football and baseball.

Samardzija was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the fifth round of the 2006 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with the Cubs in 2008 and played for them until 2014.
