Jim O'Brien is a basketball coach and former player who has had a long and successful career in the sport. He began his career as a player at Wheeling Central Catholic High School in West Virginia, where he was a three-time All-State selection. He then went on to play college basketball at the University of Virginia, where he was a two-time All-ACC selection.

After college, O'Brien began his coaching career as an assistant at Wheeling Jesuit University. O'Brien then returned to the NBA as the head coach of the Indiana Pacers, where he led the team to the playoffs in 2011. He then moved on to become an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers, and then the associate head coach of the Houston Rockets.
