John Long is a former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for over a decade. He was born on August 28, 1956, in Romulus, Michigan, and attended the University of Detroit Mercy, where he played college basketball.

Long was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the second round of the 1978 NBA draft. He played for the Pistons for eight seasons, from 1978 to 1986.
