Joni Pitkanen is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player who played as a defenseman. He began his professional career in 2000 with the Finnish team, Kärpät, where he played for three seasons before being drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Pitkanen made his NHL debut with the Flyers in the 2003-2004 season and quickly established himself as a reliable defenseman. He played with the Flyers for three seasons before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers in 2007.

During his time with the Oilers, Pitkanen continued to be a solid defenseman and was a key player in the team's playoff run in the 2005-2006 season. However, he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2008, where he would spend the majority of his NHL career.
