Julian Edelman is a former American football wide receiver who played for the New England Patriots in the National Football League (NFL). He was born on May 22, 1986, in Redwood City, California, and attended Woodside High School, where he played football as a quarterback and defensive back.
After high school, Edelman attended the College of San Mateo for two years before transferring to Kent State University, where he played college football as a quarterback and punt returner. He finished his college career with 4,997 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns, 2,483 rushing yards, and 22 rushing touchdowns.
Edelman was selected by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He initially played as a special teams player and backup wide receiver before becoming a regular starter in 2013. He quickly became a favorite target of quarterback Tom Brady, and the two developed a strong on-field chemistry.
