Abdul-Jabbar began his basketball career at Power Memorial High School in New York City. He was an All-American and was named the National High School Player of the Year in 1965. He then attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was a three-time All-American and a two-time NCAA champion.
Abdul-Jabbar was the first overall pick in the 1969 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1970 and went on to win six NBA championships, five with the Los Angeles Lakers and one with the Bucks. He was also a six-time MVP and two-time scoring champion. He was selected to 19 All-Star Games and was a three-time All-Star MVP.
Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA's all-time leading scorer, with 38,387 points. He is also first in total rebounds (17,440), blocks (3,189), and minutes played (57,446). He was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996 and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995.
