Neil Smith is a former American football defensive end who played in the National Football League (NFL) for over a decade. He was born on April 10, 1966, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and attended Southern University, where he played college football.
Smith was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 1988 NFL Draft, and he quickly established himself as one of the league's premier pass rushers. He played for the Chiefs for nine seasons, from 1988 to 1996, and was a key member of the team's defense during that time. He was named to the Pro Bowl twice, in 1991 and 1992, and was also named a first-team All-Pro in 1993.
In 1997, Smith signed with the Denver Broncos as a free agent, and he played for the team for three seasons. He was a key member of the Broncos' defense during their Super Bowl XXXII victory over the Green Bay Packers, and he also played in Super Bowl XXXIII the following year.
After leaving the Broncos, Smith played for the San Diego Chargers in 2000, but he retired from football after that season. Over the course of his career, he recorded 104.5 sacks, 6 interceptions, and 3 touchdowns.
