Patrick Peterson is a former American football cornerback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for over a decade. He was born on July 11, 1990, in Pompano Beach, Florida, and attended Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, where he played football, basketball, and ran track.
Peterson played college football at Louisiana State University (LSU) from 2008 to 2010. He was a standout player for the LSU Tigers, earning numerous accolades and awards, including the Chuck Bednarik Award, the Jim Thorpe Award, and the SEC Defensive Player of the Year Award. He was also a consensus All-American in 2010.
Peterson was selected fifth overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2011 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the league, earning Pro Bowl honors in each of his first eight seasons. He was also named a first-team All-Pro three times and a second-team All-Pro twice.
During his time with the Cardinals, Peterson was known for his shutdown coverage skills and his ability to make big plays. He recorded 28 interceptions, 91 passes defended, and seven forced fumbles in his career with the team. He also returned four punts for touchdowns and one interception for a touchdown.
In 2019, Peterson was suspended for the first six games of the season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy. He returned to the field in Week 7 and finished the season with 53 tackles, two interceptions, and seven passes defended.
After the 2020 season, Peterson became a free agent and signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings. He played in all 16 games for the Vikings, recording 61 tackles, three interceptions, and eight passes defended.
In May 2021, Peterson signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. However, he was released by the team in August 2021 during roster cuts.
Throughout his career, Peterson was widely regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. He was named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team and was a member of the Arizona Cardinals Ring of Honor. He finished his career with 499 tackles, 28 interceptions, and 104 passes defended.
