In 1962, Knight started Nike with his former track coach, Bill Bowerman. The company initially operated as a distributor for the Japanese shoe company, Onitsuka Tiger, which later became ASICS. In 1971, the company officially became Nike, Inc. and introduced its iconic "swoosh" logo.
Under Knight's leadership, Nike became one of the world's most recognized and successful sports brands.
