Garcon continued to be a consistent performer for the Redskins over the next few seasons, despite the team's struggles. In 2016, he caught 79 passes for 1,041 yards and three touchdowns. He also became the first player in NFL history to catch a pass in the end zone using Microsoft's Surface tablet, which had been introduced as a tool for coaches to review plays.

In 2017, Garcon signed a five-year, $47.5 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers. He had a solid first season with the team, catching 40 passes for 500 yards and no touchdowns in eight games before suffering a season-ending neck injury. He was released by the 49ers in 2019, and announced his retirement from the NFL in December of that year.

Throughout his career, Garcon was known for his toughness, work ethic, and ability to make tough catches in traffic. He finished his career with 628 receptions for 7,854 yards and 38 touchdowns. He also had a reputation as a philanthropist, and was involved in several charitable organizations throughout his career.
