Rich Renteria is a former Major League Baseball player and current manager. He was born on December 25, 1961, in Harbor City, California. Renteria played in the major leagues for five different teams over the course of his career, which spanned from 1986 to 1994. He primarily played as a middle infielder, but also saw time at third base and in the outfield.

Renteria was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round of the 1980 MLB draft. He spent several years in the minor leagues before making his major league debut with the Pirates in 1986. Renteria played in 18 games for the Pirates that season, hitting .250 with one home run and four RBI.

After spending the 1987 season in the minors, Renteria was traded to the Seattle Mariners in December of that year. He played in 67 games for the Mariners in 1988, hitting .247 with two home runs and 16 RBI. Renteria was traded again in August of 1988, this time to the San Francisco Giants.

Renteria played for the Giants for three seasons, from 1989 to 1991. He had his best season in 1990, when he hit .277 with 10 home runs and 57 RBI in 143 games. Renteria was traded to the Florida Marlins in December of 1992, and played for the Marlins in their inaugural season in 1993. He hit .255 with four home runs and 36 RBI in 121 games for the Marlins that season.

Renteria's final season in the major leagues was in 1994, when he played for the expansion Colorado Rockies. He hit .255 with one home run and 14 RBI in 58 games for the Rockies that season.

After his playing career ended, Renteria became a coach and manager in the minor leagues. He managed several different teams in the San Diego Padres organization from 1998 to 2010, and also served as a coach for the Padres at the major league level. Renteria then spent three seasons as the bench coach for the Chicago Cubs, before being hired as the manager of the Chicago White Sox in 2017.

Renteria managed the White Sox for four seasons, from 2017 to 2020. He led the team to a record of 236-309 during his tenure, and was fired after the 2020 season. Renteria is currently a coach for the Texas Rangers.
