Rudy Gay is a professional basketball player who has had a successful career in the NBA. He was born on August 17, 1986, in Baltimore, Maryland, and attended Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, Maryland. He played college basketball at the University of Connecticut, where he was named the Big East Conference Rookie of the Year in 2005.

Gay was selected eighth overall in the 2006 NBA draft by the Houston Rockets, but was immediately traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. He spent the first six seasons of his career with the Grizzlies, where he established himself as a versatile scorer and solid defender. He averaged over 18 points per game in each of his last four seasons with the team, and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2007.

In January 2013, Gay was traded to the Toronto Raptors, where he continued to put up solid numbers. He averaged over 19 points per game in his first full season with the team, and helped lead the Raptors to the playoffs for the first time in six years. However, he was traded again in December 2013, this time to the Sacramento Kings.

Gay spent the next three and a half seasons with the Kings, where he continued to be a consistent scorer and solid defender. He averaged over 20 points per game in each of his first two full seasons with the team, and was named to the NBA All-Star Game in 2014. However, he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in January 2017, which caused him to miss the remainder of the season.

After recovering from his injury, Gay signed with the San Antonio Spurs in July 2017. He spent the next four seasons with the team, where he continued to be a valuable contributor off the bench. He averaged over 10 points per game in each of his first three seasons with the team, and helped lead the Spurs to the playoffs in 2018 and 2020.

Throughout his career, Gay has been known for his versatility on the court. He is a skilled scorer who can shoot from the outside and attack the basket, and is also a solid defender who can guard multiple positions. He has been a valuable contributor to every team he has played for, and has established himself as one of the most consistent players in the league.
