Sean McDermott is a former American football player and current head coach of the Buffalo Bills in the National Football League (NFL). He began his football career as a walk-on at William & Mary, where he played as a safety and earned a scholarship after his freshman year. McDermott was a team captain during his senior year and was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Conference team.

After graduating from college, McDermott began his coaching career as a defensive assistant at William & Mary. He then moved on to work as a defensive quality control coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, where he worked his way up to become the team's defensive coordinator in 2009.
