Shane Dronett was a professional football player who played as a defensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL). He played for three different teams during his career, including the Denver Broncos, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Detroit Lions.

Dronett was born on January 12, 1971, in Orange, Texas. He attended the University of Texas, where he played college football for the Texas Longhorns. He was a standout player in college, earning All-Southwest Conference honors in 1991.

After college, Dronett was selected by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 1992 NFL Draft. He played for the Broncos for four seasons, from 1992 to 1995. During his time with the team, he was a key member of the defensive line, helping the Broncos reach the playoffs in each of his four seasons.

In 1996, Dronett signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent. He played for the Falcons for six seasons, from 1996 to 2001. During his time with the team, he continued to be a productive player, recording 24 sacks and 4 forced fumbles. He was also a team captain and a leader in the locker room.

In 2002, Dronett signed with the Detroit Lions, but he was released before the start of the season due to a knee injury. He retired from football shortly thereafter.

After retiring from football, Dronett struggled with mental health issues. He was diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease caused by repeated head trauma. He also suffered from depression and anxiety, which led to substance abuse problems.

Tragically, Dronett passed away on January 21, 2009, at the age of 37. His death was ruled a suicide, and it was later revealed that he had been suffering from CTE at the time of his death.

Dronett's football career was marked by his toughness and his ability to play through injuries. He was a respected player and teammate, known for his work ethic and his leadership on and off the field. Despite his struggles after retiring from football, he will always be remembered as a talented and dedicated player who gave his all to the game.
