Stefan Matteau is a former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for several teams. He was born on February 23, 1994, in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in Blainville, Quebec, Canada.

Matteau began his hockey career playing for the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP) in 2010. He played for the USNTDP for two seasons, during which he helped the team win a gold medal at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships.

In 2012, Matteau was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the first round, 29th overall. He made his NHL debut with the Devils during the 2012-2013 season and played in 17 games, scoring one goal and two assists. Matteau also played in four playoff games that season, scoring one goal.

After playing parts of three seasons with the Devils, Matteau was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in January 2016. He played in 44 games for the Canadiens that season, scoring one goal and three assists. Matteau also played in four playoff games for the Canadiens that season.

In July 2016, Matteau signed a one-year contract with the Vegas Golden Knights, who were an expansion team at the time. He played in 36 games for the Golden Knights during the 2017-2018 season, scoring two goals and one assist.

After his stint with the Golden Knights, Matteau played for several minor league teams, including the Chicago Wolves, the San Antonio Rampage, and the Binghamton Devils. He also played in Europe for a season, playing for HC Banska Bystrica in Slovakia.

Matteau announced his retirement from professional hockey in August 2022, at the age of 28. He played in a total of 91 NHL games, scoring four goals and six assists.

Throughout his career, Matteau was known for his physical play and his ability to play a power forward role. He was also known for his strong work ethic and his willingness to do whatever it takes to help his team win.
