Teddy Purcell is a former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for several teams. He was born on September 8, 1985, in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Purcell started his hockey career playing for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the United States Hockey League (USHL) during the 2003-2004 season. He then played for the University of Maine Black Bears in the NCAA from 2004 to 2007.

Purcell signed with the Los Angeles Kings as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He played his first NHL game on October 10, 2007, against the Anaheim Ducks. Purcell played for the Kings for two seasons before being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2010. He played for the Lightning for three seasons and was a key player in their run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2011.

In 2013, Purcell was traded to the Edmonton Oilers, where he played for two seasons. He then played for the Florida Panthers and the Los Angeles Kings before finishing his NHL career with the Boston Bruins in 2017. Purcell played a total of 595 NHL games, scoring 108 goals and 204 assists for a total of 312 points.

Purcell also represented Canada in international competitions. He played for Canada at the 2010 IIHF World Championships, where he won a silver medal. He also played for Canada at the 2014 Spengler Cup, where he won a gold medal.

After retiring from professional hockey, Purcell became involved in coaching. He was named an assistant coach for the University of Maine men's ice hockey team in 2019. Purcell also runs a hockey school in his hometown of St. John's, Newfoundland.
