Tyler was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 1979 and played with them for seven seasons. During his time with the Pistons, he was a key part of the team's success, helping them reach the playoffs in five of those seasons. He was also selected to the NBA All-Star team in 1984.
After leaving the Pistons, Tyler played for the San Antonio Spurs, the New Jersey Nets, and the Los Angeles Clippers. He was an important part of the Spurs' run to the Western Conference Finals in 1989.
Throughout his career, Tyler was known for his hustle and determination. He was a tenacious rebounder and a strong defender. He was also an excellent passer and had a great shooting touch.
Tyler retired from the NBA in 1989 after a successful ten-year career. He was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. He is remembered as one of the best power forwards of his era and is still revered by Pistons fans.
