Turkey Stearnes was a professional baseball player who had an incredibly successful career in the Negro Leagues. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1902 and began playing baseball professionally in 1920. He was known for his powerful hitting and his ability to hit home runs.

Stearnes was a member of the Detroit Stars from 1920 to 1932 and the Homestead Grays from 1933 to 1939. During his time with the Stars, he was a part of two Negro National League championships. He was also a member of the Grays during their four consecutive Negro National League championships from 1937 to 1940.

Stearnes was an incredibly successful hitter, leading the Negro National League in home runs five times and batting average twice. He was also a seven-time All-Star. He was known for his powerful swing and his ability to hit home runs. He was also known for his speed on the basepaths, stealing over 100 bases in his career.

Stearnes was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000. He is remembered as one of the greatest players in Negro League history and is credited with helping to pave the way for African American players in Major League Baseball. He was a pioneer in the game and his legacy will live on forever.
