The Cleveland Browns may have been watching the college football National Championship Game very closely on Monday night. Alabama and Georgia are full of prospects that could be of interest to the team especially in the first two days of the draft. Selecting with the 13th overall selection, Cleveland is expected to focus on a couple of positions with their first-round pick but wide receiver is considered their biggest need. The 2022 NFL draft is expected to be full of players at that position that could step in and help the Browns right away. Unfortunately, one of those players was hurt during the title game on Monday. WR Jameson Williams, formerly at Ohio State now staring at Alabama, hurt his knee Monday night. Early concerns have been confirmed as Williams has reportedly torn his ACL: Alabama's Jameson Williams, the projected top WR in the 2022 NFL Draft, tore his ACL last night vs. Georgia, per sources. Doctors believe that, after surgery within the next 10 days, Williams will retain his sub 4.3 speed, and they expect a full recovery. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 11, 2022 A junior, it is possible that Williams returns to the Crimson Tide for his senior season due to his injury. Despite the ACL tear, the dynamic receiver could still be drafted in the first round but, with their immediate need, that team is unlikely to be Cleveland. As Schefter’s tweet notes, Williams has blazing speed to go along with solid size at 6’2″. He racked up 1,572 yards on 79 receptions this year for the Tide with a whopping 15 touchdowns despite sharing the field with John Metchie III on the outside. Garrett Wilson, Treylon Burks and Chris Olave, among others, are likely to be in the mix to be the top receivers off the board in the upcoming draft. Email Sign up Like this article?
