The Green Bay Packers have yet to officially hire a quarterbacks coach to replace Luke Getsy, but an old friend of Aaron Rodgers is now expected to land the role for Matt LaFleur. - According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, the Packers are expected to hire Tom Clements as the team’s new quarterbacks coach. - The name should sound familiar. Clements, 68, spent 12 seasons in Green Bay, including six as Rodgers’ quarterbacks coach. He was originally hired by Mike McCarthy in 2006 and later promoted by McCarthy to offensive coordinator in 2012. He added assistant head coach to his title in 2015. - Clements was Rodgers’ first quarterbacks coach and a key part of his development as a young player. He was the Packers quarterbacks coach during the Super Bowl-winning season in 2010. - The significance of the potential hire can’t be overstated. In fact, LaFleur getting Clements to replace Getsy is the clearest sign yet that Rodgers could return to Green Bay in 2022. - Clements was the Arizona Cardinals’ passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the 2019 and 2020 seasons but retired in January of 2021. Would he come out of retirement and return to coaching the position in Green Bay if Rodgers wasn’t in play? - If Clements is hired, he would join Conner Lewis as the two coaches in the quarterbacks room in Green Bay for 2022. By all accounts, Rodgers is a big fan of both coaches. - Quarterbacks coach is the last major hire required on LaFleur’s staff for next season. - - List - - Important dates to know for Green Bay Packers 2022 offseason - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Packers Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Packers Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
