- - - There’s a long checklist of objectives for the Indianapolis Colts to address during the 2022 offseason and while some might take precedence over others, there is one area the team has to make additions to. - Regardless of the potential change at quarterback or the necessary additions needed on the defensive line, the Colts have to add to the wide receiver room to give Michael Pittman Jr. some help. - Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon listed a failure to upgrade at wide receiver as the one move the Colts must avoid this offseason. - Hey, same as Detroit. - And that is a reality you normally have no interest in sharing. - Michael Pittman Jr. established himself as a definite No. 1 option for the Indianapolis Colts, reeling in 88 passes for 1,082 yards and six touchdowns last season. Behind him, though, not a single player topped 400 yards. Running back Jonathan Taylor was basically the second-most effective pass-catcher (78.4 percent catch rate), and—while he’s incredible—that’s far from ideal. - In addition to $35.8 million of cap space, the Colts own their second- and third-round selections in the 2022 draft. They’ll have plenty of opportunities to upgrade the position but need to capitalize on them. - The Colts will have their chances to make moves at the wide receiver position this offseason if they really want to. We know Chris Ballard is bullish with the state of the position, but adding talent is necessary. - Whether the Colts want to go after options like Juju Smith-Schuster, Christian Kirk or D.J. Chark in free agency remains to be seen. There should be a robust market for young wideouts. - If they pass on that avenue, the Colts will have the chance to draft one when April comes around. Though they don’t have a first-round pick, there will be intriguing options for them on Day 2 like Alec Pierce, Clavin Austin and Christian Watson. - The Colts have some big needs to address this offseason and while other spots might be higher on the priority list, the team cannot go into 2022 without making upgrades at wide receiver. - - Like Colts Wire on Facebook - Follow Colts Wire on Twitter - Follow Kevin on Twitter (@KevinHickey11) - - RelatedReport: 'No momentum' for Carson Wentz trade during combine week2022 NFL Scouting Combine: Biggest winners from Saturday's workoutsReport: Colts interested in free agent DE Uchenna Nwosu - - List - - NFL media lauds Indy as host of NFL combine - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Colts Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Colts Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
